About 1StGenCivic.com

The site was started in about 1998 to be a place to document the restoration of a Civic. (formerly known as firstgenofdurham@rogers.com) November 12th, 2003, the site was moved to where we are now, later in mid 2005 members from civic1200.com migrated over here after the decline of that site. January 23, 2007, moved again to a new host and known as 1stgencivic.org, Since then we have grown in leaps and bounds, we host events and provide a web forum for members to interact in a social environment. We also share information on our cars, enjoy driving in social street cruises. We pride ourselves in being a mature club and we do not condone or promote street racing or aggressive driving.
Our membership has grown over the years and our strength as a group has allowed us to get exposure to the web and magazines. Our affiliates have a good reputation with members for fair service and good prices. Members themselves have been the sites best asset, and many are willing to help others whenever they can.
There are no unique requirements to join. All first generations of Honda’s and Second-generation Civics are welcome, and you don’t need to have a modified car to be accepted. Most members have stock or relatively stock cars.;

I don’t think so, it started over at Civic1200.com where anyone that knew about the internet and Honda Civic’s hung out and shared a wealth of knowledge with each other.
Meanwhile I was off in my own world oblivious of the other sites that were out there as a had my own site 1stgenofdurham, where visitors would come and sign my guest book and ask questions. Soon I was asked about creating a discussion forum, as Civic1200.com was having a lot of problems.

We were in Canada
This site is physically located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The files are uploaded from Ajax, Ontario, Canada which is approximately 45 minutes east of Toronto.

Colin Kennedy pushed the idea of the site when I started it on Rogers personal site. This is the third upgrade to include a much better menu system allowing more space for content.

Only a few first-generation Honda Civics in Ontario survive because of our extreme weather and road conditions. Tons of road salt is used every winter and with this and the lack of rust protection these cars mostly rot away.

Hopefully, there are more of these old Civics out there in Ontario that can stay connected and share their knowledge and expertise in maintaining these classic cars.

We also support and welcome Honda Civic Enthusiasts throughout the world.
First Site

Here is an old one.
I made up the business cards, totally forgot about them and only sent them to a few members. Sue used to give them out at their shop and local car shows.

Just when did you launch the site? We know of the re-boot in 2005 after the great crash………. peek:
Originally 2000, but the great crash brought it back as 1StGenCivic.org due to the hosting company’s lock 🔐 down on the servers and domains. I could not transfer anything to the new host in the USA 🇺🇸. I found out they left the back door open to hackers. My domain was still intact, yet they locked it up. Seems the site was on the same server as an organization that has a big problem with the rest of the world. I was shocked 😮 when I started checking the IP address on the server. We are sitting right next to you know who.
It was on Canadian media as how they could be hosted on a Canadian Server.

1971 Pontiac Bonniville: My first car when I was 16. Too much power, this baby gas guzzler of the 70’s was loaded, 455 4bl posi traction rear end, with no need for snow tires.

1976 Honda Civic 1200: My second car new from Road sport Honda in Scarborough. Paid approx. $3,200.00 new. Options were a spare set of keys, and good gas mileage.

The photos above are from my second car rally. This time I had the best navigator around, my girlfriend (Wife now). As you can see we won. I crossed the finish line at the Scarborough Town Center near Toronto with the car a little lighter. I had to stop and pull off the rest of the exhaust as it was slowing me down when it got twisted and bent on some nasty gravel roads. I couldn’t believe it, with all the muscle cars around, we had won. Some were just too fast when they missed turns; they made three point turns while I just .I watched a big Goliath Plymoth Fury go flying by me on one gravel road when he hit a pothole. Did you know those hub caps go like flying saucers?

Unlike my previous car, I must put roof racks on for the ski’s.

Sad day 1982:

Beaten up by a American Motors Concord Wagon. Damages $3000.00 and my pride and joy. The front end was severely damaged. The front was pushed back far enough to have the hood pop open and break off the wipers on it’s way up the windshield.

Many years later my brother in-law borrowed my baby, $##!!. I figured what happened was that he must have dropped it in to low gear on the highway to slow down. $##!! (Hondamatic) The muffler blew up, and the transmission case lost a chunk when the speedo gear smashed it was out of there.

I bought two parts cars (looked like new compared to what you find around her today) for $75.00 from a guy who raced them on ice at Mossport Raceway. I put the 4-speed in my car 🙂 and the other was built back up from a box of parts and sold.

To be continued
