First Run in my Atlas Race Snow Shoes

After a heavy snow fall on Tuesday I could not resist getting out in my new Atlas Snow Shoes. It took me a few minutes to figure out how the bindings work, I did this indoors on carpet. I paired the snow shoes with my Nike Air Pegasus Gtx Trail Shoes to help keep my feet dry on top, however keeping the snow out of the shoes was another issue.

I planned a very short run as it was dusk when I first started out. I walked to the end of my street where the entrance to the trial starts, It was easy to get the shoes on and pull the bindings tight with one pull.

The snow on the trail was quite deep, at least 8 inches of powdery snow. I tried first the snow that was squashed down by the dog walkers and students, it was difficult to maintain a running speed because the hight at which I had to lift my legs to clear my way for anther step. Running in the stomped down snow was much easier and faster too.

I could only muster up a couple of kilometers as my quads were getting sore and I wanted to save my legs for spinning the following evening.
