Experimental Safety Vehicle Program

Post by koosjer55 »

Anyone already familiar with Honda's participation in the Experimental Safety Vehicle Program? How cool is that  Check this part of this very cool site for more details. (Google Translate advisory).

At the beginning of the 70s of the 20th century, the discussion around the safety of automobiles was intensified worldwide. Eleven countries joined forces in the Experimental Safety Vehicle Program (ESV) in 1968, and nearly all the major manufacturers in these countries developed safety cars that systematically aimed at improving active and passive safety for the first time. It was mainly about results of accident research, according to which the occupants of a vehicle could be significantly better protected with relatively little effort. Honda's contribution to the discussion was the Experimental Safety Vehicle (ESV), which was developed in the years 1972 to 1974 on the basis of the 3-door of the first Civic generation.

Some of the ideas realized with this researcher later came into the series.
