Or... you could use those penny-sized washers that are often used on mudflaps etc. Stainless would be a good idea IMO. Use a smaller washer on top to reduce the chance of the larger one spinning.

I'll use the wider washers when I remount. I'm thinking of maybe some nylon washers against the paint as an extra precaution. In the meantime, I touched up all the problems with my air brush. Next, I'll clear coat and remount. :)

Try washers made from old cycle inner tubes using la set of leather punches, cut outer first, then centre for the thread.
These will spread the load even better. If they squash out, then a craft knife will trim them back to shape.
Ps, remember that Honda sprayed the area behind the grille black so that it did not show through the grille when the car was finished with all its trim in place.
It's a detail that many people miss on rebuilds, assuming that the black is merely dirt accumulation. Look at the sales brochures to see what I mean.

Just use the pennies, they are cheaper, and softer so that they form better to the odd shapes. You can also tell everyone that you had to put your last penny in the project!

I didn't know that, but it makes total sense. One of my regrets about having air conditioning is that my stainless header won't be visible though the front grill. :(

The white painted bulk head is more than good enough for me. It can always get resprayed black down the road (years hopefully). I bought some vinyl washers to go against the bulkhead. The stainless steel washers will go in between the bolt head and the vinyl washers. :)

Hey Bob, where did you find the vinyl washers?

They sound like something I'll need one day. :)

I picked them up from a home building supply store called Lowes. Don't know if you have them out your way or not. Actually, they're Nylon washers. :)

Thanks Bob,

We have building supply companies, so now I know where to look for them. :)

I'll be a whole lot wiser on my next build. Nothing like learning what to do by learning what I shouldn't have done. :)

The bulkhead paint chips have now been dealt with.
