modified CVCC 75/78 hood bodywork

Post by B9 »

So when I started my project I had 78 1200 donor car that I was (am) using as a parts car in order to restore a 75 CVCC. The "restoration" has kinda taken a back seat, and I'm finding myself modifying a lot of stuff. I've always liked the louvres on my 78 (which was my DD for 6 years) but I also totally dig the double "scoops" on the 75. I am not ,however a real fan of the vents that run along the side of the 75 hood. So I (that is 'we', because my buddy is 95% responsible for how this turned out...) attempted to make a hybrid between the two hoods. And this is how it went...

You take the 75 hood...

Cut out the louvres from the 78 hood

Cut out the vent on the 75. Spent way too much time moving the trimmed louvres back and forth by a 1/2" to position them. Weld. Swear. Get your buddy to help you weld again. Sand and sand. And spray on high pile goo. And sand and sand... and realize that your buddy is fixing what you've screwed up, once you leave the shop but doesn't have the heart to tell you. And you end up with...

then flip it over and "glue everything down to regain some strength...

I love it! Bob is a wizard!

That's some flawless bodywork! I like both styles of side vents with the dual air intake at the rear...

You can come over to my house with your friends and do some wheel wells for me?

In Sooke! In the winter! ABSOLUTELY! I'll bring my surf board... it doesn't get much use out in the prairies!
