Hood wont latch

Post by lilcivic79 »

So this has been an issue since I bought the car, even the previous owner bought it like that. The hood just wont latch on. The latch is poped, but when I push the hood down it just wont latch on. Anybody have any ideas?

I need to get this worked out by the upcoming meet or I will just have to drive without a hood. Which is fine by me unless it rains.

its not lined up right. There are 3 bolts on the catch mounted to the cowl you can loosen off and slide around to line it up. It may need to come up more.

The actual 'hook' on the hood can be adjusted too.

If this does not make the latch work, try pushing on the release handle in the car, sometimes they will hang up and not allow the latch to close.... Just an idea...

You can also take a screwdriver with a diameter the same as the striker on the hood and verify that the latch is actually trying to close around the striker by pushing it into the latch as if the hood was closing. If the latch doesn't actually close around the screw driver, it doesn't matter how well the 2 parts are lined up. Just a toubleshooting step to determine if the latch is broken/stuck or just misaligned.
