Project Steph's 1978 Honda Civic 1200

I finished polishing my distributor today. It took me several hours of sanding to get it perfect. I managed to polish it in every nook and cranny, which was a huge job. I polished it up a few times, but kept uncovering little spots I wasn't happy with, so I'd end up sanding those areas and polishing it again, only to discover more! In the end I lost track of how much time I spent on it, but I expect it was at least 8 hours. The hardest part is getting into all the corners, and sanding through the little holes in them. I'm sure Kurt knows what I'm talking about. I ended polishing all the way around, mainly because I mistakenly started on the underside that isn't visible, but also because it's going to be supplied to the engine shop, so I wanted it to look like a part off a show engine.

Anyway, here it is, sorry about the $bitty photos, I still need to buy a new camera. I have a chrome vacuum advance cover on order, which will set it right off. I also bought a re-manufactured Beck Arnley master cylinder, so that's my next polishing project.

I'm one step closer to my customized engine bay.

Thanks. They were hurting, but not too bad because I spread it out over about 4 days. It's very satisfying work. I'm still stopping to stare at it all the time.

I have a list of all the bits and pieces I need, that keeps growing on a daily basis. I'm sure you were in the same boat with your recent rebuild. I want it all finished in time for next spring (your autumn/fall). Fortunately I'll be paying people to do the assembly work, so it'll actually get done in a timely manner. That leaves me to concentrate on my favourite pastime, shopping for parts! :D

I finished polishing my rebuilt master cylinder. My thumb hurt for almost a week after I finished it. I went to pop an ibuprofen out of a blister pack yesterday and my thumb was still hurting while trying to push it through the foil. I swapped hands to get it out.

I painted the 'nuts' black that the brake lines bolt into to created that black/chrome contrast between components. I'm going to buy a hose braiding kit with stainless braid and black hose ends to continue the theme throughout the engine bay. I'm thinking of painting the engine and head black too, or the same colour as the car.

Did you get a new camera?

No, it's still the same crapppy camera. Sometimes it takes okay shots, then other times they're grainy and have a pink hue around the edges. It used to take excellent shots all the time. It's a Canon Powershot A80. I paid $699 for it many years ago. It had heaps of rave reviews at the time... as far as point and shoot cameras go that is.
