I noticed an oil drip under the car yesterday.
It appears to be coming from the right side drive axle seal.
I'll have to remove the drixe axle to get a closer look.
The right side axle is a reman unit from cardone.
I wonder if it could be a poorly rebuilt shaft chewing up the seal?

To my eye, the seal looked good, so I'll just assume it failed.
What should've been a quick and easy job turned into a longer job.
The ball joint rubber split when putting it back in place.
I had to swap out the LCA and replace the trans seal.
Hopefully, no more leak.

There's still a drip. :(bob78cvcc wrote:Replaced the right side seal with an SKF 14006 seal.
Took the car out for a 30 mile run today.
There's still a drip coming from the trans drive seal area. :(
I'll keep an eye on it. Perhaps it's just residual oil. :dunno
I just put some dye into the trans motor oil to better see where the leak is originating from.
Hopefully, it's just a poor fitting seal.

Bob, how are you taking the axle out? You don't need to disconnect the lower ball joint to do so. Jack up the car, remove the wheel, disconnect the radius rod and the inner side of the control arm. About 15 minutes if you've got practice to replace an axle. It's much easier than trying to split the lower ball joint from the knuckle.
Is there any oil above the seal? Sometimes something dripping down from above can make it look like something on the bottom of the engine is leaking, but the oil is really coming from up above. Sounds like you're on the right track with the dye - do you need the UV glasses with the dye you bought?

Just a thought, but is the axle seal going too far into the transmission? On previous Hondas of mine, you could drive the seal in too far, meaning the sprung lip wouldn't ride on the sealing surface of the axle and wouldn't create a seal. I've found that driving the seal flush with the outer edge of the transmission case yields the best results.
