On top of encouraging your machine shop to take your project seriously, mocking up the complete engine on a bench is a damn good idea anyway. So much better to be able to troubleshoot any minor irritations before the block goes in the engine bay.

Anyway, look for the obvious fail in this pic. At least I figured it out on the bench, not in the car, which is why mock ups are so useful.

...although, I shouldn't make light of it when my photo was taken in my dining room... :P

...I've also found I was using far too much space on my kitchen benches for kitchen-related activities. This had to stop. After much negotiations with myself, it was decided the workshop should annex (with force if necessary), half to three-quarters of the counter space, but the cupboard space would remain solely in the kitchen's hands... with one concession, a shelf, where I can keep my parts book and shop manuals. :P

...congestion has been an issue at times, but I'm working on it...

You know, dozens of times while I was polishing the valve cover I thought to myself $1000 was actually cheap to polish and chrome your valve cover!

I remember when you guys first mentioned the price you paid (Kurt included), and I thought that was over the top, then I discovered how difficult the job really was. ?

That said, a professional with training could do this work in a fraction of the time with various tools and machinery... I tend to treat it like knitting, or whittling... as in, something you do while you watch television, or sitting back listening to music, or even passing the time on the bus! LOL!

The other day I had a stainless 1-3/4" system fitted to the Ka (I haven't got time to make one!), and while I waited in the waiting room, I sat patiently sanding my crank pulley with #240 grit wet and dry paper. I had an old pillow case in my lap so I didn't make a mess all over the place (wow, that sentence could use some work!).

...speaking of which (or who?), I see you have windscreen-seal, chrome-insert in stock now? Is it a silver finish like it appears in the photo, or is it chrome plated?
