Simplyhonda's 79' 1200

Post by simplyhonda »

Been kinda busy on the little civic the past couple of days. Brakes started scraping. That led to a full caliper rebuild. Upon pulling my calipers, I figured it was time to address the torn axle boots.
So two weeks in to this front end tear down, I have new front brakes and two new axles! I can go and stop once more!

Also installed the chrome shift lever I won on line auctions a while back for $4. It has just been laying around. I think it dressed up the interior nicely from the old black one I had.
and for $4 who could resist?

Received a new engine dampener bushing in the mail today! So I pulled the torque rod out andy cleaned everything up. I would say my old one is shot.
Need to have this pressed in tomorrow. Man what a difference in new vs. old. Now maybe my engine will not rock to and fro near as bad.

Now on to my next obstacle. My driver's side axle keeps popping out when I go for a test drive.
Bring it in, disassemble everything, make sure it clicks in place, & reassemble. This is the second time.
Got to tear it down again tomorrow & figure out what is going on.

When you get it pressed in make sure it's in the same orientation as the old one (which is correct). You'd think that it might be better to have the solid bits oriented in the plane of movement but they are designed to be the other way around. Having the solid sections at 90 degrees to how they are at present will make the engine a bit more solid (and transmit more vibration to the body) but the bush will fall to bits faster than if installed correctly.

Thanks for the heads up. Wouldn't have thought of it. Got it pressed in today - in the correct orientation!
