Bumpers

Post by cmccloy »

Anybody know if 1975-1976 Honda CVCC Wagon bumpers will fit my 1978 1200 hatchback. I like the look of the older bumpers and want to swap them out. Is this even plausible?

Thanks

I still don't get this, the 78/79 bumpers look great, and don't get me started on the grills, especially when they're painted all black, eliminating the silver 'ring'. Each to their own I guess :?

75-77 bumper onto 78-79?

Post by jdmjunkie74 »

I was curious if anyone has done this before. I want to install a 75-77 bumper onto my 78-79 1200. However, I would still like to keep my bumper reverse lights & turn signal. Is this possible?

A few people have done it, I did a change to a 76/77 look and feel with bumpers and the lights.
I just attached a steel tubing that the bumper slipped over and bolted it on through the traditional hole. Then the rubber stoppers can go back on. The 78 stoppers have a slightly different bumper profile and may not be noticed.
Or chrome metal knock out caps can be put over the holes like Kurt did.

Here is a link that describes what is involved :) .Post pics if you end up doing the swap.

They'll fit but it’s not a bolt on. You'll have to modify the support/mounting point. You'll also have to sort the front turn signals and reverse lights. An easy fix for the lights is to swap in a 74-77 grill/bezels/turn signals and use the 74-77 reverse lights. You can see my changes below.

Other options and swaps found here.

Here Thor has used reverse lights on the front with amber bulbs.

I have 77 bumpers on my 78. Its a bit of drilling and welding to the ends of the 78-79 bumper shocks (N/A models anyway) but its easy.

I suppose one could drill holes for the later lights....never tried.

thanks for all the replies!! Scott's wagon is a beauty! the 78-79 bumper lights on the 75-77 bumpers doesn't look bad at all. something to consider when the time comes. :D

If you're talking about the two holes in front for the rubber bumper guards, he had those welded.
