Ok, I'm missing the obvious here I'm sure, but help please...

car: '81 Accord EK1

I've removed the oil pan and the flywheel cover (has to be an easier way to get the flywheel cover off without removing the axle?)

I an see the oil pump screen, I can see that it has a little tab on the side, I just can't get the stinking thing out!! I dont' want to bugger it all up. So I'm wondering what is the easiest way to remove the oil pump screen?

I'm trying to find the source of my low oil pressure when I start the car in the mornings.

anybody have a source for replacement oil pumps? My parts guy says he shows them backordered from the manufacturer and the cost is ~$95.00.

what else should I check about my low oil pressure issue?

What sort of low pressure, is it only momentary? Ie does pressure return to normal after a few seconds?

What is your normal running oil pressure at idle and at load?

If it is only at start up I would say you are using an old or dodgy oil filter with no antidrain back valve.

well I thought it was just nothing, mayby a flaky switch and I've ignored it since September.

It does go away within a second or two, but I'm getting a little worried as I can hear the valves / (OHC cars don't have lifters do they?) clicking once I start the car. It kind of sounds like a mild lifter ticking sound.

I'm using OEM oil filters and Valvoline 10w30 oil.

my "how to repair your honda for the complete idiot" book says to just use a knife and carefully pry the screen out. the part of the screen that I can see looks ok, but I'll have to see once I get out under the car tomorrow.

OH, for what its worth, the car has 187,000 miles on it. I can see the honing marks on the bottom of the cylinders!! not sure what the top end looks like, I'll have to figure that out when I pull the head.

I'm still looking for a non CVCC head that will fit an EK1 (1751cc), anthing you guys could dig up there in the Land of Oz??

thanks
Paul
