I have the Haynes and Chilton tune-up and repair books for the Accord. I have an '81 that I just adjusted the valves on. Between these two books, (which in my opinion are worthless,) I could not confirm the valve arrangements used on this year. Says to "line up exaust ports with exaust valve, and intake ports with the intake valves." Well the carb and carb heat shield are in the way so you can't see sh__!
Does anybody know the valve arrangements for an '81 Accord EK1?

P.s. Since this motor has the "auxillary valves, does this mean that it is a CVCC?

I had a 82 accord hatchback ( first year of second gen. accord but same motor). Anyway, if yours is the same as mine then the valve sequence is #1 E.I.E.I.I.E.I.E. This was the american "4-port design. 4 intake ports and 4 exhaust ports. If you were on the drivers side of the car, by the master cylinder, looking at the intake/exhaust manifold assembly, then the first thing you will see is rust. this being the exhaust manifold has the first port on the head. Other configurations include #2 I.E.E.I.I.E.E.I. With this head, it only has 2 exhaust ports, with 1 and 2 ports siamesed , and 3 and 4 together as well. then there is #3 E.I.I.E.E.I.I.E. this one is 1975 civic cvcc only. This design was scrapped after 1 year because it ran too cool, and caused the ports to clog up with carbon. The # 2 design was76-79 1488cc, and all 1600cc (early accord). The # 1 design was 1751's 81-83 and partial 80. 79 and early 80 1751's were like #2. all 80-83 1335cc, and 1488cc engines were not described here. Tired of typing. Sorry for rambling on but I know it gets confusing sometimes. Try working on them for a living! Hope this helps...Rick

errol, I have a 79 cvcc intake. I am not sure if it will work with a 75 intake. I noticed you had new engines for sale awhile back. Still have them or are they different ones?

Jeff

Thanks 'freak'. And yes they are still for sale! It's just that they are ED1's and it has a dedicated head bolt pattern and specific intake and exhaust arrangement
