One problem I found is that we are so spread out that its kinda hard to do anything. Its easy when there is 1000 fairladies in some city in CA, but its much harder when there are 20 people in Canada, 20 people in the UK and 2-3 people in south-east (GA!). I think there is what, 1 person in France and his bumpers are painted! (I'm just kidding :-D )
In my opinion, if you want to see the direction of the 1st Gen Civics, just look at the 600 coupes. :( Right now I'm trying to save 2 from the crusher or sitting on someone's lawn for th next 10 years until he decided he bought into a project that is never going to be completed, but like John S. said, its not like I can pick these up for 75$ a pop anymore and money doesn't grow on trees. Its all a matter of having the right money at the right time.
I'm really getting into restoring / repairing auto bodies and my brother is a master tech. so I'm going to try my best to do my part in the preservation of these vechilce but when it comes down to it this can only be a hobby in which money is a factor more then the want or will.
If I had my way everyone would live in the south and away from the ocean like me, that way cars wouldn't rust away into nothing when sitting for 20 years!

I found charity is the best thing to save these cars. I had 3 first gen's not that long ago. One daily, one parts, and one project. I took the parts I need from the parts car & left it in good enough condition that it could drive away. When you give a civic lover a car....it won't get crushed.
I agree about the parts, my concern is all the modifying, I love my mod'd car, but the reason I bought the daily was because it was stock. When you goto a car show...there all modified. One day "numbers matching" may be worth a lot more, with factory options....look out. These cars already gop for more now, than they did when they were released. I think we really need to help each other and not just be in it for the money. I know I give things to people who need them and genuinly will use them....I hope we all do the same. If we can all get our cars in good enough shape, it creates the want out there.
I agree about cars. Justin and Jay are doing a good a job at grabbing cars and getting parts. Second gen's are cheap and plentifull. So if it's hundred bucks...get it & strip it. Most wreckers give you 50 for the metal.... anyway...I agree with John S...your a like minded person...!

the washer's that go between the two bearings only need to be as big as the 1200 outer bearing (inside diameter to fit the shaft) the outside diameter must be smaller than the 1200 outer bearing, basically it will act as a cushion when you tighten down the nut .

Justin,
I got all the pieces except the 88+ rear hubs (no cars available) and the e-brake cables from an 87 prelude SI. I have a wagon and was wondering if the stock Prelude SI cables routed back that far to fit. I didnt have enough cash on me to grab them anyways and test fit them cause I needed to gas up the truck. Anyways, thanks for your help again. :-D

Yep you may need to soucre those from an Accord with rear disc on it. They would be longer, hopefully not too long. Also there is a length differance on the different years Preludes, as it depends on how Honda routes them, so you will just need to shop around a bit. Try to get under your car and determine where you will mount them, this will allow you to figure a rough length that you will need.

If your doing the rear disc swap on the wagon, you need to find rear hubs from a '90-'93 integra (larger inner diameter bearing)and then machine the outer to accept your wagon outer bearing (you still need the washer's between the bearings like on the 1200), the backing plate that bolts to your hub will need the holes inlarged to bolt up, I ended up using my factory e brake cable on the wagon, no need to replace it (Kyle, and Shane's wagon are both done this way), I can try to find pics of the set-up for you

Rear Disc handbrake cables
I don't know if this will be applicable to early Civics or not but I completed a 4x100 rear disc conversion my Accord a year or so ago using the 2nd Gen Prelude discs, calipers & caliper mtg brkt (I assume the 79 Accord had different rr spindle dimensions as I was virtually able to bolt the parts straight up without the hub/spindle machining mentioned here for the civics). However while I considered changing h/brake cables/levers as proposed here I prefered not to go relocating seatbelt mountings & cutting holes in the floor, so I made up a custom handbrake actuator lever extension to allow me to retain my factory h/brake cable. Clearances were tight, but it fits & works & might be possible on the Civics as well (?).
A view from the RH rear brake assembly as fitted to my Accord.
Two views from above of the custom handbrake actuator lever extension made from an old drum brake actuator lever, which bolts to the calipers handbrake cable mounting.
Below my new actuator lever the extension for mounting the Prelude handbrake cable sheath can be seen which is now redundant but only just clears the base of the rear strut so I ground off a corner of it below.
