EK1 rebuild Swap 1977 CVCC Honda Civic

Post by Eduardo I. Nieves Davila »

Well is about time i take ona project and post it here :D , Ive been talking about it but no pictures so here they are :) .

Well i have a red 77 cvcc which will be having an ek1 i took out of a parts wagon that had it swaped in there. The bad news is that it was an automatic, so ill have to machine the flywheel just a little to make the civic trany bolt to the ek1 block( as comented on roadsailing.com, thanks Kurt). I managed to get all the parts i needed to make the rebuild posible, but im still mising the tube that goes behid the block, wich will be custom made because i can find it anywhere and the one that the block had was all rusted out. The motor will be restored to look and work good.

I also have some pics of the valve cover mods i will be doing to the ek1( inspired by frankaj :D )

Also pics of cylinder head being dismanteled( uptdate as soon as i get to fix it :) )

Oh and sorry for the bad organization, its the first time i start a documented project, but not te last, enjoy :D

The engine bay is going to be gloss red and the block is black, also the oilpan. I like the ideas you guys posted but still have to think a bit about it, im leaning towards the dark gray.

well, me again, finally  .I painted the block and replaced the coolant plugs. I also got the block bored 40 over because the cylinjders where too badly rusted( i tried remving it with honing but the depresions where too deep). It costed me 100 bucks to bore and hone the block and mount the pistons on the rods.Im currently in the process of plastic gauging the crank journals.Enough words, here are the pics :D

Sorry, i uploaded a photo twice :x .Well here are pictures of the finished valve cover.I basically glued the emblem with the epoxy used to join car parts. The valve cover usually gets only 180 degrees, and it should be able to hold up, if it doesnt ill let you guys know.Coments and sugestions for future projects are readily welcome.I originally wanted smaller pistons(20 overbore) but i couldnt find anything smaller than 40.
The valve cover looks browner in person. I sure have to learn to be more organized when posting

Bad news, one of the pistons was badly installed and it was broken, i my dad didnt really look at them when he picked them up( though i thank him for his help alot). He will go tomorow to see if the man will change the piston again, ill have to buy another 40 over pisto, the store i bought it from said they had a couple or so left so its not something to worry about.Good think it only cost 10 bucks each, dont know if they will sell me only one or two.

Bought a set of four pistons just to change one, my dad ended up changing it and was a better job all around than the machineshop had done. :D
