Bumpers 78-79 on a 75-77 Civic

Does anyone know if this is possible? By the looks of it, seems like I'll have to use the support beam from a 78-79 as well w/the bumper since the bumper guards won't line up properly. Can any confirm?

I don’t think that has ever been done, usually it’s the other way around.
I suppose so with some welding at the mounting points. The 78/79 requires more structure and are noticeably stronger due to the internal brace. The 78/79 bumper has a thinner skin than the previous years.

If memory serves me well, 2 of the bolts fit directly (the inner ones).
Chrome cap the other 2. This is however on a Euro-spec car, but 2 will hold the blade without vibration or it falling off.

really?? I thought it would be a popular switch! I like how the 78-79 bumper is more aggressive looking and it definitely fills up the empty space on the metal bumper.

The USDM bumpers aren't a bolt-on swap, but if you can cut and weld some mounts you can mount them in place. The more common switch is the older style bumpers on the newer cars, also requiring custom mounts.

Yeah I agree, the later bumpers have a more agressive stance, with the earlier ones looking a little anemic. Plus the bumper overriders/guards are complimented by the bumper ends.

I like the 1978-79 bumpers too, but the rubber ends on the 1974-77 rear bumper seem to fit the contoured area on the rear quarter panel better than the later style bumper corners.

Looks like it's going to require some fabrication to switch the bumpers. I don't think i want to go that route, but we'll see when the time comes.
