The blocks are the same, all the bosses and fittings are there, I used to just use the 1488 blocks from the car and use a crank and the rods to stroke the motor. The pistons are the same, 1488-1597 just the crank and rods are different.
If you can handle the extra compression use the 75 flat top pistons, the bump in compression is really welcome as you drive, but it will not sneak past the smog check program... If you are burdened with one.

ED and EF flywheels interchange, the only difference being that of location of the timing marks, just a bit. Trans bolts up and the clutch is the same. Originally the Accord had a Heavier, stronger pressure plate, now they are all the same from the parts houses.
I usually like to mod it to use the EK pressure plate as it is stronger than the EF/ED version and can go to a clutch rebuilder to get even heavier diaphragm installed if you really need it to control an over abundance of HP...

Which 82-83 5-speed are you going with? The 1300 or 1500? The 1300 is geared pretty tall, but once you get going it should be nice on a good, flat highway.
No smog check on historic registered vehicles in New Jersey, so a little more compression won't hurt. If I ever have to do some digging into my engine, I may kick up the compression a little bit. More power and better fuel economy at the cost of a little increase in emissions? Fair tradeoff considering how much I drive my Civic (less than 1k miles a year).
Do you have a source for the 1600 motor now? I'm kinda curious as to what else may be out there for future use...
